Social Networking

I have now entered the world of social networking. I'm not quite sure how it works but I'm willing to give it a try. I have signed up for http://www.linkedin.com and I have added a few people to my "network". We will see what happens. I should have a half a million dollar job land in my lap in just a few days. :-)

If you don't know what social networking sites are, you can watch this little video that will teach you what it is all about.

I dont think many of these social networking sites are good for finding a job. About.com just added 3 new sites to their Top 10 Employment list:

http://www.linkedin.com
http://www.realmatch.com
http://www.indeed.com

You'll see only one is a social network but even that just uses job listings. The social part wont help you much.

I thought it was strange he put facebook and myspace on the video. I mean, yah, you can see people's friends, but I haven't seen a page on either with much "value." Maybe my experience is limited.

I signed up for facebook not even knowing what it is and get requests from people I know and don't know. Don't know why the don't knows would want to be my 'friend' (I'm cool, but still), and Jamie especially has told me people from high school have contacted him to add him that he hardly ever talked to back then. Maybe they are attempting the 'social network' value of it. Maybe they are just trying to be as cool as me and pretend they have a lot of friends.

The one you signed up definitely looks more valueable, you'll have to keep us updated.

I am on facebook, but more of an effort to plug in to Blake's world of friends. It has been surprising to me how many of them have added me to their friends. I can kind of see the networking value, but on the other hand. I'm not looking for a job or love.
